About us
Established in 1846, Watermans is the oldest dry cleaning business in south east England Watermans is a family business equipped by the best equipment.
Our experience gives us the advantage of handling quality clothes and delicate garments. Watermans was one of the first in the country to put the whole of the dry cleaning plant and equipment on the full view so that passers-by can see the operators at work.

Below is a timeline of our history:
| 1846 | Established as a dyer and bleachers by Bailey brothers in south Croydon |
| 1866 | Acquired by George Waterman Who changed the name and continued trading as Watermans |
| 1892 | Acquired by Mr J.J. Bishop continued the Dyeing business |
| 1902 | Dry cleaning services started |
| 1908 | Business had outgrown the premises in South End Croydon and new factory was built on the Waddon Marshes |
| 1910 | The very first factory ever built on what is now the Purley way was Watermans |
| 1940 | During the Battle of Britain, The boiler house took a direct hit from an enemy high explosive bomb destroying a large part of the premises and as a result the factory had to be closed for six months for refurbishment. |
| 1946 | Several new branches were opened around Croydon and the Trojan vans operating the collection and delivery service were very well known |
| 1955 | The Mayor of Croydon Alderman Basil Monk Officially opened the premises at Warlingham Equipped with up to date machinery. |
